The Museum offers a diverse educational program that includes
visual and performing arts classes for adults and children including
Kindermusik. A vibrant concert and lecture series attracts numerous
top musicians, curators and scholars from throughout the art
world. Our Arts Express program includes both performing arts
and visual arts trips.
The annual craft festival, Arts Marketplace,
is the Eastern Shore’s largest juried fine craft show,
featuring local and national artists and artisans demonstrating,
exhibiting and selling their works. Every year, the Museum works
closely with the Talbot County Board of Education to supplement
and enrich the arts education programs at area schools, through
the innovative and imaginative ArtReach program.

CONTINUING STUDIES IN PAINTING & DRAWING

The course will focus on helping students with their personal decisions regarding subject matter, problem solving in terms of media, and their own style. Students may choose a painting media from oil, acrylic, or watercolor or a drawing material from charcoal, conte crayon, graphite (lead pencil) or pastel.
BASIC PRACTICES IN PAINTING OR DRAWING & STUDIO SET-UP

This course is designed for the truly uninitiated student and therefore addresses studio setup, and basic to more sophisticated development of a drawing/painting through presentations and demonstrations. The process of "building" a painting will be presented/demonstrated in oil, acrylic and watercolor. For drawing, the process will be addressed in charcoal, conte crayon, pastel and pencil. There may be an introduction to ink and mixed media. No materials are needed other than something for notes, if so inclined.

So, you have done 100+/- watercolor paintings and can make the mark you desire on the paper--then what’s next? PLENTY! This workshop will challenge you to use the basic skills you have developed to make better paintings, practice better design habits, interpret and simplify to tell the viewer what you feel, expand and refine your chosen style. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

This class will be, for the most part, for beginners. However, both novice and experienced digital camera users are welcome to take part. We will cover the basics of using digital cameras as well as some applicable general fundamentals of photography. This includes: camera types, appropriate digital formats, file sizes, menus, memory cards, exposure controls, depth of field, white balance (color balance), transferring pictures to the computer and organization, and some common data/picture files back-up procedures. There will be occasional shooting assignments outside of class time to reinforce and demonstrate principles discussed in class. Students will need a functioning digital camera and its manual for referencing the features and functions.

A class aimed at developing skills in "throwing" pottery and in glazing the finished product. Individual development stressed to help students find their own style. Demonstrations and one-on-one teacher and student interaction are included in the class.

TEEN CLAY CLASS

This class offers teens an opportunity to learn how to use the potter’s wheel to throw clay into functional forms such as dinnerware and vases. Students will also learn various glazing techniques such as dipping, sponging, and hand painting.

Each week students will learn about different artists and their styles, and be inspired to create their own art projects in a variety of media such as tempera, watercolor, pastels, charcoal, clay and collage, resulting in the same style as that artist. An exciting opportunity for children to express themselves as well as use the Museum as their own personal art studio.
HOME SCHOOL CLASSES for
6-9 year-olds

These classes are designed for the area’s home school population ages 6-9. The main focus of the classes will be the introduction to fine art techniques and materials. A variety of media will be explored along with art history. All classes meet on Fridays from 12:30 - 2:00pm Classes begin on Friday, April 11, 2008 and continue through May23 (Classes will not meet on Friday, May 2, 2008) Cost is $45 per student for the 6 week session, $55 for non-members.

CAPA's "A TRIO OF ONE ACTS" Presented by the Academy Art Museum and The Community Alliance for the Performing Arts.
An evening of one act plays! This exciting first-time collaboration between CAPA, the Tred Avon Players and ArtHouse Live will take place at the Academy Art Museum. The schedule follows:
Joe Mayer will direct Margaret Barton Driggs’ "Bismarck Comes Back" for CAPA with Rena Cherry Brown playing the lead role of "Warm."
ArtHouse Live, with Tim Weigand at the helm, will present a premiere presentation of Will Eno’s slice-of-life play, "Intermission."
The Tred Avon Players will present William Saroyan's powerful 1942 play "Coming Through the Rye" directed by Jon Hanbury.
"A Trio One Acts" will be presented March 27, 28 and 29 at 7:30pm.

The 2008 Music at Noon Concert Series will feature an amazing array of young emerging classical artists for your listening pleasure.
Harpist Jacqueline Pollauf perform on March 18.
Closing out the concert series on April 15, 2008 will be the Tak-Crisan-Tong Trio. The series is sold out. If you are a series ticket holder and cannot attend a concert, please call the Museum so that we can fill your seat from the waiting list, or give your ticket to a friend.
